The Video Games Industry is Bigger than Hollywood

With Covid-19 rearing its ugly head at us as a nation, these lockdowns have been nothing but the norm for gamers. When the lockdown took place, most people took solace in social media, but others took part in gaming, and with this has shown that there’s boosted user engagement in video gaming.

Most of the revenues for the gaming industry / platforms have skyrocketed due to the lockdown, and not only with the pandemic having accelerated the involvement in users, it showed more positives to gaming companies, and gave more incentives to better improve themselves, along with their work environments as well.

Video gaming has been thriving, and always will thrive as long as there’s that desire to relieve some stress after a long day at work, after you’ve finished working out, or if you’re just looking to relax.

The practice of social distancing, and the lockdown, companies shutting down temporarily have all been monumental movements for gaming companies to engage with their player base / their audience to advertise, and improve.

Although it is just a forecast of what people can expect in the year 2020, it’s safe to say it hasn’t  been the most predictable year to date. The global video gaming industry is expected to be worth roughly $159 billion in 2020. This surpasses the box office film / the movie industry revenue by an easy 4 times, AND almost 3 times the music industry has built up thus far. ( The music industry reached a $57 billion market in value.)

In the year 2016, the video game industry surpassed the amount of money that box offices / film industry, and the music industry had accumulated combined.

The video gaming industry took control of both collective markets and showed what people truly wanted and looked for in an industry. With that being said, the gaming industry is on trek to surpass these numbers, and even go further beyond what most think is capable of a single industry.

Video gaming industry vs Film industry has been a subject of discussion for quite some time, and can be acquitted to the early involvement, and implementation of gaming culture dating all the way back to the 1960’s. The film, and the music industry has been around for much longer than the gaming industry has been thriving, especially in comparison.

As quoted by Frank Ng., CEO of Allied eSports, “There are 2.3 billion gamers around the world, and as an industry, video gaming is already bigger than music and movies combined, we project that eSports will be the biggest format of entertainment. Every publisher in the world is getting into this” .

Just as a side-by-side comparison, the global box office is estimated at $41.7 billion, and the music industry has roughly around $19.1 billion in the year 2018. The video gaming industry is on the path of hitting over $300 billion by the year of 2025, as predicted by Forbes.

With billions upon billions of dollars generated through years of work, advertisement, and reputation in the video gaming community, eSports has surpassed the Hollywood blockbuster scene, AND the musical industry.

Take into consideration that ever since the global pandemic, the shutdown of many companies, and everybody being forced to stay inside of their house for roughly two months, this does in fact skew the numbers that the gaming industry has built up towards, but that’s the point. In the year 2020 alone, the video gaming industry is expected to accrue well over $165.3 billion dollars, and has the potential to go even higher than what its current projection is aiming at.

eSports has taken its crown for gaming, and the gaming industry, and Twitch is here for the ride. Seeing the rise in popularity of the bigger names for eSports, and gaming alike, Twitch took the initiative to dedicate a tab on their in-app browser to JUST eSports.

Revolutionary move on Twitch’s end for realizing that a big majority of the people who view professional eSports use Twitch for their viewing pleasure. Notably, this feature garnered over 3 billion hours watched with its introduction, making this a sizable accomplishment towards eSports as a whole, not just in its viewing.

Those are some of the most impressive facts about games in the video games industry.

A video game in the industry that broke records, “Rainbow Six Siege”, their 2020 “Six Invitational” tournament had impressive statistics too.

  • 303,155 peak viewers.
  • 11,475,803 viewer hours
  • Prize Pool of 3 MILLION USD.

It is not easy for players and teams to win those “3 Million USD” in Rainbow Six Siege though, it takes a lot of effort, practice, and dedication just like usual sports. That’s why you can always get a Rainbow 6 Siege boosting service so it helps you improve in the game and have a chance to compete at the highest levels.

About 8 months ago, one of the most popular games around the world “League Of Legends” held a world championship exclusive for their video game, and it successfully hit new heights and broke insane records for a video game (You could easily say that this tournament was watched more than a lot of the movies) :

  • 3,951,521 peak live viewers.
  • 137,988,114 viewer hours.

Valorant is also a newly published game, just a few months ago had a massive viewership and hit a world record on the popular streaming website “Twitch”, they have successfully hit over 1 million live viewers which is impressive from a game that was released just a few months ago, you could safely assume that valorant boosting twitch’s viewership.

Rocket League is also one of those games that no one expected them to hit any impressive numbers since the fun and childish nature of the game, but it broke expectations, and hit impressive numbers. This was due to some of the most popular teams making a division for Rocket League, and it effectively helped Rocket League Boosting the viewership.

  • 136,689 peak live viewers.
  • 816,875 viewer hours.

Expanding into strategic, chess-like, movement-based gameplay, Teamfight Tactics has been a subject of discussion for the whole duration of 2020.

Although we don’t have the same numbers available for discussion.

Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship takes 16 of the best TFT players in the world, and plays each other with a $200,000 total prize pool.

One of the many ways you could easily participate in such tournaments is by having a high rank in TFT, which we can provide for you with our TFT Boosting service.

The largest prize pool in a single tournament in the esports history.

DotA 2, the very famous MOBA game, held the largest prize pool in a tournament in the esports history, netting 34 Million USD for the total prize pool.

This prize pool is bigger than A LOT of the movies budgets (excluding the huge ones of course).

All these facts just make it plain obvious that while the video games and the esports industries haven’t peaked yet, they are still MASSIVE industries, being bigger than hollywood’s movies and music industry combined is just a proof that it will be and remain the biggest entertainment sector in the world.
