New sensations overshadow old-time titles.
The continuous growth of esports is a reality and the range of video games played around the world is getting wider day by day. Of course, not every title can be considered as an esport, but we can find championships of every single game. However, some games succeed more than others, and according to Google, Fortnite was the big winner of last year.
This Epic Games title released in mid-2017, became the trendiest game during the first quarter of 2018. The unstoppable popularity of this battle-royale game generated more than 200 million registered users. Fortnite was by far the most googled game last year, and only the epic League of Legends has been able to get closer to it, with almost a third of the searches. In fact, Riot Games’ MOBA had been the leader for more than six years, until the promising Fortnite came along and stole its crown.
In the third position, although very far away, was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This all time hit continues on the podium, followed by Overwatch and Clash Royale. The TOP10 is completed by the following titles: Dota 2, Hearthstone, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and Heroes of Storm.
As for mobile gaming, Clash Royale is the one that has generated more interest to Google users during 2018, reaching its maximum peak in April. Although this big sensation of Supercell has become the prince of esports, it still has a long way to go in this sector.
It is also worth mentioning other native mobile video games that are also very searched on Google, such as Hearthstone, Vainglory, Arena of Valor or Brawl Stars.
